Construction has begun just south of Waterford Lakes on The Burnett Biomedical Sciences building. Construction is expected to be complete by Fall 2009. The intent of this establishment is to build nationally recognized research and education programs in the biomedical science field. It is the first of several buildings that will create a medical city that will include UCF’s College of Medicine and its Burnett School of Biomedical Sciences, the Burnham Institute and a satellite University of Florida research building. A new veterans hospital and Nemours Children’s Hospital plan to locate at Lake Nona.
According to Orange County District 4 Commissioner Linda Stewart, Innovation Way is expected to be completed in 2008. This 5.5 mile stretch of roadway will run from the University of Central Florida area to the Beachline Expressway (SR-528). The construction of the interchange connecting Alafaya Trail and the Beachline has been delayed, but a service road connecting Alafaya Trail to an existing interchange will be used in the meantime.
